We have a firm commitment to NATO, we are a part of NATO. We have a firm commitment to Europe. We are a part of Europe.
~ Governor George W. Bush, Jr.
This week, On the Page continues to look at ties that sometimes bind.
more on siblings
Throughout this issue, we'll continue to post daily sibling pictures and recommendations. At the end of last week, we brought you Lindsey Crittenden's Like This, a poignant short story of how the chance appearance of his sister reveals an addict's struggle.
Starting today, we share Michael Allen Potter's Le Roi Inconnu, a powerful essay about the hope for connection with siblings dispersed by the government. This week also brings Gayle Leyton's Brother, a simple poem describing longstanding resentments that separate a brother and sister from one another.
our next issue
Yesterday, I ate lunch at Saul's in Berkeley while addressing invitations to On the Page's adult adolescence party.
A man peered over my shoulder. "What's On the Page?"
"A magazine."
"What kind of magazine?"
"Small 'l' literary magazine—fiction, essays, reviews, photos, etc. related to a theme. Third issue's on adult adolescence."
"What's adult adolescence?"
"Risk-taking, a sense of wonder, curiosity and confusion about one's place in the world when you're in your 20s, 30s, 40s, 50s, whenever."
"Have a copy of it?"
"Adult adolescence?"
"No. The magazine."
"Not yet."
This brings me to three important points. We're having a party in San Francisco on April 26th at Balazo Mission Badlands Gallery at 7:00 p.m. to celebrate adult adolescence. Our deadline for submissions for this issue is April 15. We're still looking to get On the Page in print and will keep you posted on our progress.
We love to hear from you.
Best,
